The Weekend.

Now I realize in saying this, I may get 'hate comments'. HA! However, I'm going to say it anyway... I don't LOVE the weekend. I'm not always doing that dance of joy on a Monday, but I don't "live for the weekend" as so many people do. The big countdown for Friday's arrival isn't ticking away for me. This could be for a few reasons (one being hubby doesn't work Mon-Fri and we DO look forward to and even countdown the days for his days off!), but the biggest is I'm a sucker for order. I like the flow of our homeschool days. We eat breakfast all together around the table, and chit-chat about our crazy dreams or what we're looking forward to, we get those chores done and then sit for bible and prayer time to start the day. It seems on weekends we're all over the place and we don't connect as a family as much. Someone asked me if I felt like we had a "big" family. I said no. It doesn't feel like a big family to me, but then when I sometimes look at the schedule and how we try to have the kids involved in outside activities, we feel a little 'chubby'! :)
In all of that, I do have to say that our weekend had a bit of flow & some wonderful moments in it! Friday is a bit of a shorter day of school which is nice for everyone. Usually by lunchtime everyone's done for the day and can work on hobbies or other activities. Megan has been busy making pillowcases, which turned out amazing, don't you think? :)
She picked these fabrics out (of course polka dots & stripes!!) when we were in Arizona last March. Thank you Hobby Lobby :)
Joshua had soccer conditioning Saturday morning and I thought it was pretty cute when I went to drive him out, all the kids jumped in and wanted to come along for the ride (hmmm, perhaps they enjoy those together moments just as much as I do! {smile}) Joshua is trying out again this year for the competitive soccer team. He loves the challenge, and we are encouraging him to push himself in this endeavor. He has begun setting his alarm (we typically don't use alarms; homeschooling is great for this!) and doing a workout in our home gym (of sorts) to prepare himself for tryouts as well as keep his conditioning in top form. I'm really proud of him. He's doing great! After lunch we went over to hang out with friends so Sarah could meet together with her "CHRISTIAN CRAFT CLUB" girls and have their monthly crafting party. These little dolls have made up their mind to have a club where they get together once a month and plan a craft to do together. Brilliant if I do say so myself! The host Mom is fabulous {*wink!*} and we all just feel so welcomed and blessed after being with them. Don't you just love that? I love spending time with people who breath into me a breath of fresh air & encouragement! Even if it's just silly jabber - laughter with friends is therapeutic! To top the night off we had pizza and a movie night (needed that family connect!). Poor Daddy is working nights so he missed out on the whole day. I get sad for him sometimes when I think how hard he works for us (and what he sometimes misses out on), and make a mental note not to complain about making his lunch and drench him with thankfulness for how he provides for us!
This brings us to Sunday. Ahhhhh.... that blessed day of rest. Well, after church. I never find it too restful getting the kids all ready and out the door. I do enjoy the 20-30 minutes Matthew allows us to sit and sing in the service before he's far too distracting and needs to get his energy out in the playroom. Hopefully training can soon begin for him to sit through a service, but at one year old, we're not there yet.
Everyone got to do some pleasurable things this weekend, and I like that. Time with friends, playing at the park, crafting .... and I even got a few hours to work on my Project For Life! That makes me happy! Tonight I got our school day organized, sheets photocopied and tables cleared for a fresh new week's begin.
And so the flow of a new week begins.....

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

  2. I don't jump for joy over the weekends either. I love having a schedule. Sundays are a bit of a stress for me and I sometimes day dream of doing school to relax me, crazy. And my slow progression in becoming a hermit, well I won't even go there. HA
