Couponing

Have you seen the TLC show, Extreme Couponing? We don't have a TV (well we do for movies, but no television) so this isn't a show that we have seen very often. However, when we are in a hotel, we've managed to see it a few times and it was insane... for Megan however, it was amazing and something she was determined to try out! So away she went, ordering coupons online, watching for sales and doing an amazing job. She was making some incredible deals. Summer arrived along with a summer job, so the coupons began to collect a little dust, but she got the 'coupon-bug' again and being clipping out the savings again.
Yesterday we went for her "coupon" shop @ Walmart. The key is to wait for an item to go on sale and THEN use the coupon to double up your savings (no coupon stacking in Canada... although I hear London Drugs will allow this!). So this was the haul! 8 jugs of Tide for the price of 3, huge sale on diapers (and then an additional $10 off with her coupons), Old Spice Body Wash for just over a dollar, hello ladies! (Have you seen the Old Spice commericials on youtube? If not, you must.... hilarious!) So all in all on top of all the anniversary sales, she/we saved an additional $37 with coupons. That worked out to be nearly 30% off our bill!
I think I can classify this as Economics 101~ :)
I'll leave you with a couple of Limericks Sarah wrote this week:
(She was given the first line and had to complete the rest)
There was a young man from New York
And he went to the store for pork.
He got to his house
And saw a mouse,
And tried to kill it with his fork.
This next one she had to do entirely on her own. It took a long time, but I was very proud of her when she presented the following:
There was a grey cat
Who saw a purple hat.
Who tried to put it on his head
And went to his bed.
And went to sleep on his mat.

We head out early in the morning for a family reunion in Edmonton. It will be just an over-night trip but the kids are excited to see Grandpa & Grandma again so soon. We will be taking Monday off to enjoy nature & family. Hello first field trip!
