Today was our final day of school before our 3-week holiday to Arizona. We are all so excited, but were fabulously focused this morning to get our bookwork done. Things lined up perfectly for our time off (without any planning which was a bonus). We finished our Mr. Skeleton on the our wall ending with the Urinary system. Sarah found this last bit disgusting and wished we didn't have to learn about urine! Although when she had to use the restroom she told me that her bladder was expanding (which we learned signals the brain that you need to go!), so she's learning! It's been a fun project.
There were a few quizzes and tests as units were finished up in Math, Reading & Literature. Yes, I quiz & test. I know many homeschool teachers do not. I like to see what they remember and also want them to be in the habit of taking tests, as this will be a part of life in college or university.
Yesterday we worked in Story of the World (Ancient Times) and the kids enjoyed having a chance to write each other a message... not having clay on hand, we decided to use play-doh!

Sarah used the Sumarian's picture-writing called Cuneiform to write her message.
It reads: "Josh"
The Egyptian's used pictures as their 'writing' called Hieroglyphs. Joshua wrote his message to say "Hi Sarah".
After this project the kids thought the Cuneiform writing was easier as the hieroglyph had many images that were nearly identical. They had fun writing their coded messages to each other and I was impressed with how well they did in both writing & reading!
Our plans for the day quickly changed as Joshua had an accident in the kitchen and sliced his arm. Impromptu field trip the ER! It was a test in patience as we sat and waited.... then left to get their immunization (and Joshua now with an added tetanus shot!)... and then back to wait some more. My list of things to accomplish so that we would be feeling ready to leave on Sunday for the big road trip went untouched. We got home and Joshua was feeling much better all cleaned & taped up! I began to get the laundry back up and running (I don't think laundry is ever done!) and Joshua stepped up and made pancakes all by himself! Sarah took Matthew for an hour and they played "house" in his bedroom and Megan started doing some cleaning & organizing. We were back to our focus! Dinner was inhaled (in all the commotion I missed lunch) and then it was out again to get the kids to youth group. Both of them with a couple shots each, and Joshua with an arm taped up, didn't even think for a moment of not attending youth group tonight, a country hoedown! I look forward to hearing all about their evening!
A day of thanksgiving. God's strength & energy for a great start to our day and His protection over Joshua, that his mishap in the kitchen wasn't any worse.
Praise the Lord, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name."
Psalm 103:1
We hope you mend quickly Joshua!
