We certainly had a full day today. Friday is our "shorter" day for book work which we all love. Today Megan and I went and had a shopping trip together (she LOVES couponing.... I'll share more about that in my next post) and I enjoyed spending the afternoon with her :) We also celebrated Daddy's birthday a bit with his birthday dinner/cake tonight. The kids were all busy in our teeny-tiny kitchen with me and besides one bag of peas landing on the floor, we did pretty good! We enjoyed a delicious meal together, which is complete success!
For school this week we continued in science with our body book. We've got a lovely skeleton taped to our wall as we learned all about our bones. Now he's got organs dangling inside of him as we go through and learn about each organ, digestion and our nervous system. We are completing the NOEO Biology II from last year. We move through science a little more slowly than the curriculum outlines, but I'm OK with it pushing through into year two. My goal this year is not to jam as much into a day as possible, but rather really LEARN and UNDERSTAND what we're doing.
Our skeleton continues to get layers added to him. This week he actually got a face taped over top of his skull. Beauty isn't he?
Sarah has been reading Little House in the Big Woods for her silent reading and a friend of mine (thank-you Tania!) showed us this lapbook to try. This is our first attempt at a lapbook and I'm excited for Sarah to give it a try. I'm hoping that it helps with her comprehension and remembering details of the story.
For art we've been playing with soft pastels and watercolor crayons this week. Sarah LOVES art, Joshua puts up with art, and Megan would rather not do art. I'm hoping they each find as the year progresses not only an appreciation for the arts, but enjoyment in it as well.
We're enjoying our Geography and have just finished up with Saskatchewan this week and will be moving into Manitoba next week! History has been fairly basic so far as we've started Story of the World. I'm thinking of ordering Social Studies 10 for Megan through Christian Light so she has something a little more challenging. I find that I sometimes have to go through a few weeks of school to weed out what's not really our 'style' and add in what might work better. I must say social studies is always the thorn in my side! I'm never too sure what to teach, as it's never been a favorite of mine. I'm looking forward to finding something that interests us all :)
This week Joshua built a fire outside so we could savor the 20 minutes Daddy was up before catching his bus and enjoyed s'mores together.
A good week. How was yours?
If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose.
Philippians 2:1-2

I got that lap book from Cher last year (thank you Cheryl :) ). That does sound like a full and wonderful day. Good for you for reassessing your curriculum and finding what works. I love the skeleton. You need to print out an oversized picture of Matthew's face for it I think (wink). And, what an awesome verse!
