Growing

We've had a great couple of weeks! The weather has been fabulously sunny and warm, school books and assignments are getting finished up and summer is nearly upon us!
We met with our facilitator and got our assessments done and planning for 2012-13 is nearly complete. I'll post soon regarding that, just waiting for a few more books to trickle in!
Here's what we've been up to:
Physical Education.
For Joshua this is soccer, soccer and well.... more soccer. We travel down to Edmonton now for games and we had great weather a couple of weekends ago and enjoyed watching him play!
Ok, soccer and more soccer with a good dose of quadding and dirtbiking!
Isn't homeschooling grand?!
A messy school room means we've been busy having fun. We actually finished up with History today! We've busily been going through our lessons and paused for one side project.
The kids made dreidels and enjoyed playing the game, especially when they realized candy was involved (or rather mini marshmallows!)
Megan continues to hone her culinary skills in the kitchen. She keeps a sparkling kitchen, can prepare full menus, does a fantastic job at feeding our crew delicious dinners... but her love is still with desserts!
We had friends over for a BBQ this week after our final bible study and this of course meant Megan could search out recipes and she came up with some amazing desserts.
Above is a fudge brownie peanut butter cream cheese trifle.
Oh yes, it was THAT good!
One of my favorite cookies - lemon sandwich cookies, with the added touch of drizzled white chocolate.
Just to make it too difficult to chose, she also made a graham, chocolate fudge ice cream cake.
I do believe she received an A++ in Home Economics this year!
Today we ventured out as a family to the garden shop. We have been in Fort McMurray now for a few years and have never been before. What a great impromptu field trip! We will certainly be going back for a longer visit.
Matthew loved looking at the bunnies!
It made us all hungry for our farm and land, but in  the meantime thought we'd do some "patio" gardening. Sometimes you just have to work with what you have!
Joshua and Sarah picked out strawberry plants, Megan picked out some zucchini plants and lettuce. We searched for a packet of golden beets like we grew at Grandma's house with no luck so settled on carrot seeds. Then we selected a number of herbs to plant in an herb container. There's nothing like fresh herbs! It will be a fun summer project tending to our little garden.
Tomorrow we hope to get to Canadian Tire and find some containers to plant everything in!
My friend asked me today if we have a homeschool verse, much like a life verse. I had never thought of this before. I love how this homeschool mom and friend inspires and encourages me. She is a breath of fresh air again and again! It made me stop and consider.... I will be pondering this question. So I ask you, do you have a homeschool or family verse?

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

  1. School looks like it has been full and fun for you guys! And how you are all not 400lbs is a mystery. Seriously, Megan's got SKILLS! I hope her facilitator gives her Home Ec. credit. I think that verse is wonderful! How encouraging!
